Terms & Conditions

Rustic Furniture Tasmania

Last updated: [insert date]

By visiting our website or placing an order with Rustic Furniture Tasmania (“we”, “us”, “our”), you’re agreeing to the terms and conditions below. Please read them carefully before confirming any order.

These terms sit alongside your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.

1. About Us

Rustic Furniture Tasmania is a small workshop based in the Huon Valley, Tasmania, creating custom solid timber furniture, benchtops, bathroom vanities and high-end timber kitchens.

2. Custom Orders & Design

Most of our work is custom and made to order.

  • Quotes are based on the information, drawings and measurements you provide.

  • Any changes to size, design, materials, hardware or finish after a quote is accepted may change the price and lead time.

  • We reserve the right to decline projects that are unsafe, unsuitable for the materials, or outside our scope.

Before we start work, we may ask you to confirm the final design in writing (email is fine).

3. Pricing, Deposits & Payments

  • All prices are in AUD unless stated otherwise.

  • A non-refundable deposit (usually a % of the quote) is required to secure your booking and materials.

  • Work does not begin until the deposit has been received.

  • The balance is payable on or before collection/delivery, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • Materials and pricing can change over time. Quotes are generally valid for 30 days unless stated differently on your quote.

If payment is late, we may pause work or delay delivery/collection until payment is received.

4. Lead Times & Delays

Our work is handcrafted and lead times are an estimate only.

  • Lead times depend on design complexity, timber availability and our current workload.

  • We’ll do our best to meet agreed timeframes, but delays can occur due to supplier issues, transport, weather, illness or other factors outside our control.

  • We’re not liable for any indirect or consequential loss caused by reasonable delays, but we’ll keep you updated if timeframes shift.

5. Cancellations & Changes

Before work starts

  • If you cancel before we’ve ordered materials or started work, we may refund part of your deposit at our discretion.

  • Any costs already incurred (design time, drawings, ordered materials, etc.) will be deducted from any refund.

After work starts

  • Once we’ve begun cutting or building, deposits are non-refundable.

  • Because our pieces are custom made, orders generally cannot be cancelled once production has started.

We’ll always try to work with you if something changes, but extra design or build changes may be charged at an hourly rate plus materials.

6. Delivery, Collection & Installation

  • We’ll confirm whether your item is pick-up only, delivery, or delivery + installation as part of your quote.

  • Delivery fees are based on location, access and size/weight of the piece.

  • It’s your responsibility to tell us about access issues (tight stairs, driveways, doorways, etc.) before delivery.

  • If access is unsafe or unsuitable, additional charges may apply for extra time, labour or alternative delivery methods.

Once a piece is delivered or collected and signed off, responsibility for its care passes to you.

7. Timber, Finish & Natural Variations

We work with real timber – every piece is unique.

By ordering from us, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • Grain, colour, knots, sap lines and figure vary from board to board.

  • Small movement, hairline checks (fine cracks), seasonal expansion/contraction and minor cupping/bowing can occur, especially with solid timber.

  • Our photos, samples and digital images are a guide only, not an exact match.

  • Finishes may look slightly different under different lighting or in photos vs. real life.

These natural variations are part of the character of solid timber and are not considered defects.

8. Care, Use & Maintenance

Your quote or delivery may include care advice for your specific piece.

In general:

  • Use coasters, trivets and placemats to protect the surface from heat, water and chemicals.

  • Wipe spills promptly and clean with a soft cloth and mild cleaner only.

  • Avoid dragging heavy objects across the surface.

  • Keep pieces away from excessive direct sun, heaters, fireplaces and damp areas.

Damage caused by misuse, poor care or failure to follow care instructions is not covered by our warranty.

9. Warranty & Australian Consumer Law

We aim to build pieces that last and stand behind our workmanship.

  • We warrant our workmanship for a reasonable period from delivery/collection, subject to normal residential use.

  • This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse, accidents, modifications, or neglect.

  • If a genuine workmanship issue arises, please contact us as soon as possible with photos and details so we can assess it.

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) are in addition to this warranty and cannot be excluded.

10. Returns & Refunds

Because our work is custom made to your measurements and design:

  • Change-of-mind returns are not available on custom pieces.

  • If there is a genuine defect in workmanship or materials, we will, at our discretion and in line with the ACL:

    • repair the item,

    • replace the item, or

    • offer a refund where appropriate.

You must notify us of any concerns within a reasonable time of delivery/collection and before the piece is modified or installed by others.

11. Online Content & Intellectual Property

  • All images, designs, text and content on this site, our social media or promotional material remain our intellectual property unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • You must not reproduce, resell or copy our designs, photos or content without permission.

  • We may photograph and share completed projects (without disclosing your personal details) for our portfolio, website and social media unless you request otherwise in writing.

12. Privacy

We respect your privacy.

  • We collect and store only the information needed to quote, build and deliver your project and to communicate with you.

  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

  • Third-party services (e.g. payment providers, website hosts) may have their own privacy policies.

For more detail, see our Privacy Policy page (if you are adding one).

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Our liability is limited, at our option, to repairing, replacing or refunding the goods in line with the ACL.

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss (such as loss of profit, business interruption or other financial loss) arising from your use of our products or website.

Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude or limit any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

  • The latest version will always be available on this page.

  • Any changes apply from the date they are published.

15. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Tasmania, Australia. Any disputes will be dealt with in the courts of Tasmania.
